On Tuesday, students from Year 11 and Year 9 were invited to attend the school’s in-house careers fair, which saw over 25 external organisations set up their stands to provide careers information and advice. Year 11 are in the process of making their Post 16 applications and, after Christmas, our Year 9 students will be making decisions surrounding their GCSE choices.

With representatives from all branches of the armed forces and within the fields of finance, horseracing, law, policing, funeral services, manufacturing, property development, football, construction, teaching, health & social care, the civil service, travel, engineering, agriculture, food and music, students were able to find out about the jobs available in each of these areas. Local colleges and training providers supplied information about the courses they offer and students discovered more about apprenticeships.

Our goal is to ensure all students learn about each pathway available to them and can begin to explore the local and regional labour market. Students were also able to speak to some of our sixth form students and discuss the courses on offer and to our teacher training team, who provide a great opportunity for young people interested in a career in this sector.

Sgt. Jamie Reeve from the Army commented: “Students were engaging and enthusiastic and asked some very good questions. They were attentive and it was a good day.”

Kacey and Mike from Metro Bank added: “Thank you for the opportunity to speak to students, it was rewarding being able to share our knowledge of opportunities in banking.

Other comments included:

“A really good experience, the students represent the school positively and had clear career goals”

“Well organised and good communication, thank you”

A year 9 student remarked “Thank you for organising this event, I found it really interesting”

Mrs Taylor, Careers Leader at the school said:

“We would like to thank all the organisations who gave up their time to provide a good range of up-to-date information and advice. Our aim is to ensure that students can make informed decisions at key transition times and start to think about their career plan. Thank you also to Deepings School staff who helped out on the day.
