Work Experience
The purpose of Work Experience is to provide pupils with the opportunity, before leaving school, of having experienced directly the realities of working life. Forming an integral part of the school curriculum, it is not to be regarded as specifically vocational training or recruitment.
Pupils are given an insight into the world of work, its disciplines and its organisation. Pupils will be afforded opportunities to:
-
compare their career ideas with actual experiences in various skills/work areas;
-
be given opportunities to see the potential applications of the knowledge they have been acquiring;
-
gain an appreciation of work attitudes and an understanding of the differences between school and work;
-
have a chance to meet and establish relationships with people outside their acquaintance;
-
develop a range of transferable, key employability skills
The Deepings School has chosen the period following the Easter break as best meeting the particular curriculum, timetabling and staffing arrangements for this school. It is not possible to arrange any Year 10 term time placements for any other period. Part-time jobs undertaken by pupils in holiday periods are not regarded as Work Experience by the school.
Year 10 work experience is scheduled to take place 13 - 17 May 2024, with a work-related 'in-house' programme for those students unable to secure an external placement. Please see documents at the bottom of this page for an overview of the process.
The school has contracted the services of Unifrog, to administer risk assessments and provide guidance to employers and parents on the process and associated legalities. Please access the associated documents below to view further details.
SIXTH FORM WORK EXPERIENCE
Sixth Form students also have opportunities to take part in a period of work experience during the summer term. The date is 8 - 12 July 2024, however, students can go out on work experience at other times in exceptional experience and with the agreement of the Head of Sixth form. Students expand on their experiences in Year 10 and source their own placements, further developing their research and communication skills. This additional opportunity will prove valuable when applying for higher education courses and on seeking employment.
Careers Lead Mrs Taylor is moving on from The Deepings School at Easter. If you have any questions relating to work experience please contact the school's main reception who should be able to assist you.
