New Year 12 Transition Work
As students prepare to embark on the exciting journey into Year 12, it is important to lay a strong foundation for studies at Key Stage 5. The transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5 marks a significant shift in academic expectations and workload, and our summer transition work is designed to help students navigate this change smoothly.
The content and complexity of Key Stage 5 subjects can be quite different from what students have experienced in Key Stage 4. Our transition work helps bridge this gap, ensuring students are familiar with the foundational concepts, themes, topics and skills needed for the new courses. As such, this makes the first few weeks of Year 12 more manageable and less overwhelming.
Tackling academic work over the summer also helps build confidence so the students are more prepared and ready to engage with the curriculum from day one. Key Stage 5 requires a higher degree of independent learning, so the transition work encourages students to develop these skills, teaching them to manage their time, conduct research, and study effectively on their own. Furthermore, a long summer break can sometimes lead to a lapse in academic skills and knowledge. Engaging in structured learning activities over the summer, helps maintain the academic momentum, so students return to Sixth Form ready to learn.
We encourage each student to approach your summer transition work with enthusiasm and dedication. By investing time and effort now, they will set themself up for a successful and rewarding Sixth Form experience.
