News Bulletin 9 June 2023
BackDear families of The Deepings School,
This week has been somewhat pivotal for our Year 11 pupils. It has been the last week of their formal education and they are now on study leave for the reminder of the exam season. This momentous event has been celebrated with them in several ways; leavers’ hoodies, shirt signing and a joyous assembly celebrating the end of year 11. Mr Jamie Smith, Head of Year gave a very heartfelt speech to the year group; recognising their success, the challenges of covid and remembering absent friends. As a relative newcomer to the school, I have observed a year group who have a strong sense of community and friendship. Their final celebration will be the Year 11 prom in a couple of weeks’ time.
When pupils leave a school it is heartening when our staff share the praise they have received from pupils. I want to share with you some of the comments we have received from our pupils over the last couple of weeks.
at the Deepings, the learning environment is positive
thank you for your passion for teaching
you went above and beyond to help me
your support has made me a better and more appreciative person
I am delighted pupils have shared this feedback and know many of our teachers have been touched by this commentary.
On Wednesday I was privileged to visit the GCSE Art Exhibition at the school. I have a particular interest in the arts and was delighted to see the high calibre of work on display. There was much variety and individuality evident. Furthermore, the event was well attended by families, which I was delighted to see.
The weather forecast suggests that we are in for a run of hot weather over the coming weeks. Therefore, I wish to remind you of our protocols for uniform and equipment in hot weather:
- Pupils are allowed to loosen their ties and undo their top button
- Blazers are not expected to be worn, however pupils must have them in their bag in case the weather does turn. Pupils must not wear hoodies, sweatshirts or other outer garments in place of their blazer.
- It is advisable to bring a water bottle and sunscreen for PE lessons
- It is not permissible to bring aerosols into school as some pupils have extreme allergic reactions to aerosols. When considering any deodorants please choose alternatives.
Mr Watling and I continue to encourage parents to make an appointment to come and chat to us. Each week we meet parents and very much value the time spend with parents understanding and addressing their views. Please do continue to take us up on this offer into the next term.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely
Ms K Johnson
Head of School
