Sport fixtures- pupils have been demonstrating their grit and determination
BackYear 7 football
On Wednesday 22 March the Year 7 boys travelled to Spalding Grammar. The game was end-to-end from the off, with Deepings finding themselves one on one with the keeper but having no luck. Spalding, from two counter attacks, managed to set the score at 2-0. Callum B reacted swiftly to bring the score line back to 2-1 going into half time.
After half time, Jack A slotted a goal home taking it to 2-2. Lots of end-to-end football followed, with missed chances by both teams, but it was Spalding who scored two good, worked, goals taking it to 4-2. Just as Deepings thought it was over, up-stepped Jack A who calmly slotted one more goal home taking the score line to 4-3. The final score was 5-3.
All players demonstrated great character by digging deep and not giving up.
Our attention now turns to the County Cup semi-final next week.
Year 8 football
The Year 8 football team welcomed Bourne Academy for their final league game of the season. Deepings battled valiantly in extremely tough conditions and showed glimpses of good football. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough, and Bourne Academy took the win.
We have been really impressed by how all the boys have represented the team this year. Like the Year 7 team, our attention is now focused on the County Cup semi-final.
Year 9 football
The Year 9 football team travelled to Spalding Grammar for their final league game of the season. The boys demonstrated immense grit, determination and teamwork throughout the game but unfortunately were not able to secure a win. On another day, it could easily have been a different result.
Well done to all players.
Year 10 footballl
The Year 10 team welcomed Bourne Academy for their final league game of the season. In an evenly contested match, despite fantastic effort from both sets of players, in very challenging conditions, the weather got the better of both sides. The final score was 0-0.
We have seen a cracking performance from the team throughout the course of the season, with lots of positives to take into next year.
Year 11 football
The Year 11 team had their last fixture against Spalding Grammar on Wednesday. Both teams were unbeaten in the league, so a good game was in store.
In the first half Deepings dominated the play but were unable to convert the possession and chances into goals, despite numerous chances to break the deadlock. With about five minutes of the first half remaining, a long ball, over the top, was struck sweetly on the half volley by Klyden Lleshi to make it 1-0.
Spalding came out like a different team in the second half and retained possession the ball well. Two goals for Spalding resulted in a final score of 2-1.
A great effort from the Y11 team for the season.
Year 9 netball
A resilient performance by all players, with some amazing stand out performances during the match. The girls demonstrated good teamwork and communication skills, combined with great movement, and set plays helped the team to score in every quarter.
There were lots of positives to take from the match, along with some areas of improvement that the girls will be working on over the coming weeks.
Year 10 netball
The last netball game of the season for the Year 10 squad was at home against UALS.
Despite being down to five players, Deepings were feeling determined to give it their all. UALS arrived fully equipped and were equally determined. The first quarter was close, with Deepings leading by 4 goals to 3 following frantic game play by both teams. In the second quarter both teams had settled into a rhythm and Deepings pulled ahead to 11-4. In defence Isabella Minnis and Zara Jesson worked tirelessly to turn the ball over and prevent the UALS attackers from having any goal scoring opportunities.
During half time the team were full of excitement and enthusiasm, and listening to them motivate each other was just lovely to hear. The third quarter was by far the strongest, as Deepings stretched the lead to 20-6, with awesome shooting from Izzy Rock-Jerram and Megan Goodman, not just in this quarter, but throughout the game. In the last quarter, Deepings moved further ahead, making the final score 26-6.
Player of the match was awarded to Emily Hinch, Centre, who worked like a machine to move the ball from one end of the court to the other and keep up with play.
A great game to finish the season and some great netball played! Well done, girls!
