Dear families of The Deepings School,

This week has been a week of celebrations at The Deepings School.  I had a very pleasant evening this week joining members of the local community at the Parish Council ‘Making a Difference Awards’.  The school hosted the event and it was pleasing to see a wide range of local volunteers having their contribution to the local area shared and celebrated.  Some of our staff and pupils were in attendance who had been nominated.  Well done and congratulations to all involved.  Further details can be found in the news section below.

It was a joy to be part of the Year 7 success assembly this morning.  Our Year 7 pupils have an excellent approach to their learning, with many of them achieving their pin badges over the last two terms.  It was a pleasure to be able to award a good number of Gold pin badges this morning and I look forward to handing out many more in the coming weeks.  The school is currently reviewing the way in which we reward our pupils.  We will be seeking pupil views on this in order to shape the way in which we celebrate hard work and kindness.

A number of Year 11 pupils have been working with an external provider this week to develop some additional skills in approaching GCSE English and Maths.  The overarching message from the provider was how wonderful our Year 11 pupils are in their approach to learning and commitment to their studies.  There will be further opportunities over the coming weeks for more pupils to embrace this additional support.  Well done to all those involved for being so positive and engaged.

This term we have a number of opportunities for our pupils and staff to have their voice heard.  I would like to remind you that parents and carers are welcome to arrange an appointment to see me or Mr Watling to give feedback on the school and their child’s experience.  Longer term we are looking to engage with parent focus groups and develop opportunities to have increased parental engagement within our school community.  I will share our plans regarding this over the coming weeks.
