Year 10 experience the world of work!
BackSTUDENTS EXPERIENCE THE WORLD OF WORK!
Year 10 students are completing their week-long period of work experience today, where they have had opportunities to experience the world of work through a superb range of placements, both locally and further afield and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday to learn more about their experiences.
Vets, retail outlets, local primary and nursery schools, architects, employers within the IT, construction and sports sectors, care and hospitality industries, media and theatre organisations are just some of the 170+ organisations who provided a placement to help students develop their employability skills and experience a taste of what it is really like to go out to work!
The school has been receiving excellent feedback from the organisations involved and many have remarked on the outstanding contribution students have made during the week. Some have even extended part-time/summer job offers to our students.
Just a few of the many positive comments are mentioned below.
“Jess and Tom are both an absolute credit to the school. Asking lots of questions and have embraced all the tasks we have set them. Very professional and mature attitude and we would welcome further discussions with them in the future if they decide to consider an apprenticeship”
“We have offered Izzy a Saturday job and are pleased how she has grown in confidence throughout the week – she now feels like part of the team!”
“We just wanted to email to say what a pleasure it has been to have Katie join us on work experience. She has completely embraced the experience at pre-school and is a wonderful young lady who is clearly an asset to the school and her family. We would gladly have Katie return if she considers a career in early years education
There were a small number of students who remained in school and they followed a work-related programme of activities, including presentations and workshops from the DBP/Job Centre and the Inspire Education Group. Topics included learning about the labour market and the term LMI and there was time for independent research using the careers programme Unifrog, and the national careers service website. Careers advice - job profiles, information and resources | National Careers Service. Students also had an opportunity to visit the sixth form centre to talk to employers about progression routes, including apprenticeships, as part of the Y12 post 18 careers marketplace event that was taking place.
Linda Taylor, Careers Lead who manages the work experience programme said:
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to all the companies and organisations that have provided a placement to our students. We really appreciate the time and resources that are involved in providing work experience and value their support.
We are proud of the way students conducted themselves and this experience will enable them to further develop their transferable and work-related skills and help in their future career planning.
An opportunity to experience the world of work at first hand enables students to consider their post 16 options more realistically and discover the qualifications and pathways required for them to reach their career goal”
