Dear families of The Deepings School,

Year 10 have been introduced to the world of work this week, participating in work experience in a variety of settings.  This opportunity is a vital addition to the careers programme we offer at the school and exposes our pupils to jobs and careers which they may not have considered.  I am looking forward to chatting to our Year 10s when they are back in school on Monday to hear how they got on.

This week our school has become an exam centre.  At this time of year it is critical that our exams all run smoothly to ensure we provide our pupils the best opportunity possible to sit their exams, fulfilling expectations of the exam specifications and ultimately delivering grades which reflect their ability.  I am delighted to share that our pupils have been working hard and conducting themselves well.  We continue to wish them the best of luck over the coming weeks.

In previous communications I have shared how we have been seeking pupil input as to what our vision and values should be.  This week, all the feedback has been returned to me.  It has been heartening to hear what our pupils want for our school.  This will now be shaped into our values and vision, which I look forward to sharing with you early into next half term.

Looking ahead to the next half term, we will be reshaping our school day.  The start and end of the day will remain the same, however the organisation of the day and timetable, will change.  We have listened to feedback from pupils, parents and staff.  From this and through our own observations, there is a feeling that a 60 minute lesson will better suit our pupils and curriculum.  I will communicate the finer details in early June.  The timetable will also revert to a one week timetable as opposed to our current two week model.  These changes are a positive step forward for the delivery of our curriculum.

Do take a look at the news items on our website.  Some more sporting success to celebrate this week, along with our librarians participating in the Star Wars event at our local town library.  Well done to all involved and representing The Deepings School.

I wish you all a pleasant weekend.

Yours sincerely

Ms K Johnson

Head of School
