School support India, an ex-student, with her dissertation on race and pedagogy
BackNews
India Stoby is an ex-student who has asked to return to our school in order to undertake important research for her studies. We are delighted to accommodate her request and have asked her to explain the purpose of her work here;
Endeavouring to explore the topic of Race and Pedagogy led me to undertake a masters in Postcolonial Studies as SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies). Over the year I became very interested in the role of emotions and how they affect our ability to articulate ourselves clearly. In merging the two aspects, my dissertation ‘Race Discourse within Pedagogy: How emotions affect secondary school students' ability to discuss race within the classroom’ aims to highlight the importance of emotion and embodied experiences of race as valuable knowledge. I will then continue to delve further into this topic whilst studying for my PhD.
We hope that India will be in school during July to meet with some of our students who might volunteer to help. Parents and carers will, of course, be notified in advance of the event.
