News Bulletin 30 June 2023
BackDear Families of The Deepings School,
This week has been very successful for The Deepings School - a week of achievements!
This week has been School Diversity Week. It is a wonderful opportunity to reinforce the importance and understanding of diversity amongst our pupils, staff and wider community. Therefore, it was fantastic to hear we have achieved the Equalities Award at Bronze level. The Equalities Award provides support and guidance for schools to effectively promote equality, diversity and inclusion and allows schools to showcase their commitment to equality. There are Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, allowing schools to work at an achievable level and build upon a commitment to equality over time. Thank you to Mrs Owens who has been working very hard to ensure we are recognised for our commitment to equality. Schools can progress through the levels as their equalities work develops, and in time, I hope we continue to build on this and achieve the next level.
I am also pleased to share we are meeting the Healthy Schools criteria for our catering provision. Over the past couple of weeks, I have tasked our in-house catering team to tweak their menus. Not only have they made sure they are compliant, but now offer healthier alternatives, which are good value too.
Last night I had the pleasure of joining our SCITT trainee teachers at their graduation. It was heartening to be sat in a room full of individuals all successfully embarking on a career in teaching. Congratulations to all involved. It was delightful to see people who are committed to a profession which has many challenges at present.
A week ago I was fortunate to join Year 11 on their prom night. Our Year 11 pupils were dressed from top to toe in their finery, with many arriving in style. Photography on the evening was provided by our A level photography pupils. The images will be shared in due course, where you will be able to see the magic of the evening, along with some rather unusual modes of transport too!
We continue to promote our values of Kindness, Respect and Ambition. Assemblies this week, led by Deputy Head, Mr White, have focused on family and community, tying in our values to these cornerstones in our lives. The promotion of our school body as a community is one of utmost importance as we strive to emphasise the sense of belonging that our pupils deserve.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely
Ms K Johnson
Head of School
