Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze Qualifying Expedtion

On 17 and 18 June 2023, 41 intrepid explorers set off from Knossington, near Oakham.

Walking in their teams, along country footpaths, across fields and through picturesque villages that would not normally be seen when travelling by car, they headed for Wing Hall campsite.

The weather was fairly hot, and most teams found it tough going, but they all made it to camp albeit later than expected.  Despite the long day, after pitching their tents, cooking and eating their meals, many still had the energy to play some football/rugby.

It was off to bed, earlier than normal for a Saturday, as it grew dark and we didn’t hear anything more until day light woke them up at around 5am.

We were so impressed that while they cooked breakfast and broke camp that they were quiet and respectful of other campsite users.  Most teams were up, packed and ready to go long before 8.30am.

On day two, the teams made their way, via checkpoints, to Great Wakerley Wood and the finish point. Apart from one five-minute downpour the weather was better for walking than the first day.  This, along with easier navigation, meant that they all arrived at the finish in good time and excellent spirits.

Their assessors debriefed them, and I am thrilled to announce that all pupils were awarded a good pass.

Well done to all.

Onwards to Silver!
