Estimadas familias del instituto de Deepings!

This week the school has celebrated European Day of languages, with a range of events which have excited students and provided learning opportunities which extend beyond the classroom.

Deepings students marked the day by taking part in a range of activities put on by their Spanish teachers, with Years 7 and 8 taking part in a treasure hunt during their Spanish lessons, Year 9s making a display and the GCSE groups used their current language skills to complete tasks within the classroom.  Teachers spent the day greeting their students in another language as they entered their classes and they had them write the date in Spanish in their books. The school also ran a cooking competition, entrants were asked to cook something from another country or culture and the dishes were judged in their tutor groups, with the winner receiving a prize.

Along with celebrating languages, this week has seen our sports teams start to play fixtures, our footballers and rugby players have been at home and away.

Today at the school has been a Trust Inset day.  Many of you will know we are part of the Anthem Trust.  They are an incredibly supportive trust, working with all staff at the school to drive standards and transform the educational experience our students receive.  Today’s focus has been developmental, ensuring our curriculum promotes extensive opportunities for all of our students to engage and be passionate with their learning and able to articulate their knowledge.  Please do talk to your children about their lessons, asking what they enjoy the most and what they have learnt during the day.  I know from my own children they often say ‘they can’t remember’ when asked, but some gentle prompts usually result in me finding out what they are learning.

Finally, this week we have been promoting the notion of community.  Tutor groups have been tasked with developing some ideas to promote community in their tutor groups and across their year groups.  I am really looking forward to hearing of ideas they come up with and allowing them to implement them too.  I have already been approached about fundraising activities, interform competitions and challenges between their tutors.  This is a further commitment to engaging our students with extra curricular opportunities and experiences.

Espero que tengáis un buen fin de semana.
