News Bulletin 13 October 2023
BackDear families of the Deepings School
I’m delighted to hear of student success stories this week, which have been shared on our news page. Congratulations to Jude in Year 8 for his karting success and we wish Freya in Year 11 much luck when she competes at The Bristol Open this weekend, which is the UK’s biggest sport martial arts competition.
Mrs Robertson launched the work experience programme to Year 10 students this week. Work experience is a fundamental part of careers education. All of our students are encouraged to participate, as we know how important it is for young people to experience the workplace. The Deepings has a plethora of employers who generously give their time to this initiative, and we are very grateful for this. Along with our own bank of contacts, students are welcome to self-place too. Thank you to all the Year 10 families who attended the information evening this week. I look forward to hearing where students plan to go.
On the theme of careers, this week it is the early applicant deadline for students wishing to study medicine or veterinary science at university. We have a small number of Sixth Form students pursuing careers in these fields and we have been supporting them with their applications.
You will see on the calendar, a whole school event next Friday, which is ‘Wear Red Day 2023’. Show Racism the Red Card’s annual ‘Wear Red Day’ is a charity which uses the high profile status of football and footballers to tackle racism in society. I am delighted the Sixth Form have arranged this event. They are asking students to wear one item of red clothing in exchange for a voluntary £1 donation to the charity. I look forward to seeing students wearing one red item next Friday.
Next week we will be celebrating success in our assemblies as we total up the rewards points achieved by students over the last half term. I look forward to being present in assemblies as we recognise their success in adhering to our school values of Kindness, Respect and Ambition. I will be sharing the highest achieving students and tutor groups in next week’s newsletter.
I wish you all a happy and restful weekend.
Kind regards
Ms K Johnson
Headteacher
