During National Apprenticeship Week, Year 10 students listened to an excellent presentation from Sgt Arthur Sargeant from the RAF. Arthur talked about his career path and his 42 years within the force, primarily as a dog handler and trainer.

With around 60 different career opportunities, including 20 via the apprenticeship route, students were encouraged to undertake research to discover the pathway that suits them. The RAF is in the top four apprenticeship organisations in the UK and offer extensive opportunities to progress, travel the world and develop important skills. Students were particularly interested in being able to represent the RAF in sports or other clubs – a recent success has been at the e-games world championships!

Arthur also stressed the importance of completing extra-curricular activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award, to help your application stand out.

The full range of career options can be discovered via the QR code or via the RAF website.

Sixth Form students also took the opportunity to speak to Arthur at the end of the presentation, to find out more and ask broad questions about a career with the RAF and the forces in general.

We would like to express our thanks to Arthur Sargeant for visiting the school and look forward to welcoming his colleagues back to promote the amazing STEM-related roles, which are available equally to all.
