Informative and well-received Stay Safe Day for Year 10 pupils
BackOn Wednesday 24 May Year. We hosted a Stay Safe Day run by Lincolnshire Safeguarding Children’s partnership for our Year 10 pupils. Pupils attended six sessions covering Online Safety, Healthy Relationships, Gambling awareness, Drug Awareness, County Lines and First Aid. Each session provided information to enable pupils to make positive choices and keep themselves and others safe.
The presenters commended our pupils for their positive engagement in the sessions and hope to return next year. We always value input from parents and carers and so were delighted to have received the following feedback:
I just wanted to thank you for putting on an engaging PSHE day for year 10. My daughter came home with lots of new information on very important issues that are pertinent to her age group, she had clearly engaged well with the day and was keen to discuss the issues with us at home.
In particular, the information on drugs, domestic abuse and stalking really shocked her. The real-life scenarios and case studies really hit home and to quote her ‘if ever someone wasn’t sure on whether to take drugs or not, today would make you decide a definite no’ … so clearly a day well spent, well done to all involved.
Pupils have also had the opportunity to offer feedback within their PSHE lessons. They were asked what the key ‘takeaway’ from the day was. Here are some of their replies:
“Relationships can be abusive even at a young age”.
“Helpful information about things like spotting when there is an issue in a relationship and understanding why gambling is so addictive.”
“I am now more aware of potential consequences to specific drug misuse”
“Being careful online and making sure you can identify signs of bad relationships and how to get out of it carefully”.
