News Bulletin 16 June 2023
BackDear families of The Deepings School,
This week I am delighted to share with you our new school vision and values.
In previous newsletters I have shared with you how we have asked pupils and staff in the last few weeks to put forward their suggestions for our new values.
Going forward our school values will be:
KINDNESS, RESPECT and AMBITION
In addition, our mission is for:
'Every pupil to thrive and feel valued'
The values and vision are important and will underpin our school improvement activities going forward. Over the coming weeks we will be threading our new values and vision into our curriculum. Alongside this, we will work with pupils about how to apply these values within our school community. Please see our curriculum offer for the link to our intent document.
Earlier today there was a ripple of excitement from our pupils as they were issued with their new timetables. Feedback regarding a one-week timetable and a more even spread of lessons across the week has been incredibly positive. Five lessons per day will be much more manageable for our pupils too. From Monday, the new timetable will commence and this timetable will run into the next academic year. Pupils will need to bring their current books to their lessons next week, new exercise books will be issued in September after the summer break.
Year 10 parents' evening was very successful yesterday, with a very high turnout. The impact of a strong triangular relationship between a student, the school and their parents cannot be underestimated. From the feedback we received this week, several parents spoke about how useful it was to have the conversation with the teachers with their child alongside them. Whilst I know this is not always possible, it would be great if all families could aim for this.
Pupils have coped admirably with the hot weather this week. Thank you for your support with uniform during this prolonged period of sunshine. This weekend our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award pupils will be on their expedition, I hope the weather remains favourable to them and the staff volunteers who give up their weekend to support. Thank you and good luck to all involved.
Have a lovely weekend.
Yours sincerely
Ms K Johnson
